Sauti za Wananchi (Voices of Citizens) uses mobile phones to regularly collect information from a broad cross-section of Tanzanian, Ugandan and Kenyan citizens. The initiative allows survey data to be gathered quickly and efficiently, at low cost, to inform citizens of what's going on and to support policy-makers to be more responsive to the needs and aspirations of citizens. Parents perceive a downward trend in the quality of secondary schooling, and largely blame the government and teachers for the decline. These findings were collected through Africa's first nationally representative mobile phone survey, Sauti za Wananchi.

Managing natural resources

Four out of five citizens believe that oil and gas will benefit them, their children and the country. At the same time, four out of ten (37%) believe that people in Government and the rich will benefit the most. More than half of the population (55%) want some of the revenue from oil and gas to be given directly to citizens in cash.
