UK Guardian recognizes Twaweza partner Huduma in Kenya

The idea behind Huduma (Swahili for service) is that citizens can send reports on the performance of services in their district by sms, email or Twitter. Madeleine Bunting reports about this new venture in Kenya in the UK Guardian’s Poverty Matters blog and names Twaweza as an important partner. Erik Hersman, one of the founders of Huduma, is quoted saying that the strength of the partnerships with civil society organisations on the ground is essential for promoting Huduma and encouraging citizens to participate.  Huduma is a platform for monitoring of service delivery in health and education. The new open source application builds on the success of Ushahidi, which used crowdsourcing to track incidents during the post-election violence in Kenya in 2008. Read more
